The Year The Stars Didn’t Show: A Vintage Met Gala Review

Every first Monday in May, fashion lovers gather to see the most daring, avant-garde, theatrical looks pushing the thin line between costume and “over the top” at The Met Ball. Our studio is just a stone's throw away from the Met Museum; and we can’t help but see the home of the legendary event - and stare at its vacancy after nearly two months of having its doors shuttered due to COVID-19. While New York seems to have all its buildings in place and doors in their hinges, there’s one thing that’s missing that makes New York, New York - and we’re not talking about Frank Sinatra.

The event, created in 1948 by fashion publicist and founder of the CFDA, Eleanor Lambert is a spectacle to any fashion enthusiast, as guests (just your average A-list celebrity) typically attend the event on the arm of a fashion designer. Check out our favorite looks we’ve dug up from Calvin Klein and Iman in the early '80s to the Versace siblings at The Met Gala, decades ago. From fine tailoring to leather shirts, these Top 10 Met Ball moments prove - there's timeless style and style stuck in time.
